Default Levels and Towers and Bears, oh my!

...but mostly the first two.

Out of curiosity, for those of you that are on your way up the Tower: how far did you have to level yourself and your minstrels/sidekicks/etc before you had a decent shot at not getting destroyed?

I'm at 175 but haven't even been trying - thought I'd hold off until I got to where 75K-plus gold per companion level wasn't a big deal - so of course I can't even make a dent in the first Tower guy, none of my Level 150 compadres are even more than half-equipped. But then today I saw a 198 guy beat Tower Level 20, and I kind of went "ooooh ahhhhh", so then I wondered if I'm just being a cheapskate and a couple hundred thousand gold is all I'd need to get started knocking fairy-tale heads together...

Thoughts?

Cheers

The trick is to have all companions with decent gear and the same level as you are. After that it is all just a matter of luck.

S3 level 341 on tower level 86
s9 level 199 on tower level 11

Difference is that on s3 I built my companions up on s9 mage still needs a belt and not even sure what others need I know gear on mage and warrior are not the best.

eek, so it really is as expensive as that, hm?

according to the chart on the German forums, even just getting them up to 175 would be... 8,169,786 gold, not including the equipment. Which... I dunno, I guess is doable, but also sounds it'd put a pretty big dent in the ol' stats budget...

Trick is to do it slowly cause at first it will be next to impossible to beat first level of tower. Put one stat and epics in the toilet so u can have best chance at getting good gear for companions. Of course your old gear that you don't need for yourself cause you bought new gear put on companion of same class. Rings and necklaces are all class so just a matter of finding them with stat bonus you need.

As for leveling up your comapanions what I did was 1 level per day of 1 comapanion besides most ppl get tower b4 level 150 so there is no leveling involved at first so not hard to level them.

Do it on gold weekend That's what I did to catch up; it went quickly and I was able to beat some tower levels, which therefore gave me more gold.

Now I just level up my followers with each level I gain. At level 321, I believe it just cost me 7.5 million to level all three of them, but I've found overall, it's been worth it.

Thanks for the ideas! Now I have a new gold weekend project, I suppose... besides watching the World Cup Round of 16, of course

And as long as I'm asking questions: for those of you who weren't already well over level 200 when the Tower update was first rolled out... what level were you when you beat the first story?

I can't tell you much about the lower levels, as I didn't keep track, but this is what I have for the upper levels. Essentially, I was beating about 1 tower level per character level and at least one tower level per week up through level 76, but then you hit a wall:

(numbers are tower level, date, and my level)

60/61: 2/28/2013
62: 3/1
63: 3/7 274
64: 4/9 282
65: 4/10 283
66: 4/13 283
67: 4/18 284
68/69: 4/24 285
70: 4/30 285
71: 5/2 285
72: 5/5 286
73: 5/29 290
74: 6/5 291
75: 6/9 291
76: 6/15 292
77: 7/5 295
78: 8/23 301
79/80: 1/4/2014 311
81: 2/15/2014 314
82: 3/22/2014, 317
83: 6/11/2014, 321

Levels 79-83 averaged more than a month each, although 79 and 80 were on the same day. 83 took almost 3 months, and I suspect level 84 will take at least as long (if I maintain interest). At this point my companions, combined, knock the boss down only about 20%.

Is it worth it? right now, my gold is at 369% of base (186% guild bonus and 83% tower bonus). That means 22.5% of my gold comes from the tower bonuses. That's probably good enough to buy me a couple of points per day of int or con.

On a more philosophical note, attacking the tower gives you something to do during those 10 minute quests. Although I must admit, attacking half a dozen times per day for 4 months sometimes feels like beating your head against a wall.
