Default How do sub-stats work?

I always have this question in mind since I started playing this game. Supposed that I'm a mage, how do my defense and evasion points reduce the attack from warriors and scouts, is there a specific formula for that?

thats a good question, and i want back to my old RPG days, and have been doing VERY WELL..
Im on server 1..

Here is abit of info I USE... READ the info on Each item, it tells you alot.
1. TRY not to use items with Luck, but keep your LUCK above 25%..If you are low level, START building LUCK..later it gets hard to keep it up, if you dont start NOW..
2. build your primary skills...as a wiz. You get bonus on Int. but you get Screw'd on Health. you need the health..
3. we use alittle math on the STR, DEX..go 10 times your level. it helps alot.
Level 50, STR and DEX must be 500..

Im always fighting above my level.. Our group is in the top 100 with only 2 players.

Each point of evasion reduces your opponent's dexterity by 1
Each point of defense reduces your opponent's strength by 1

So if you have 1000 strength as a mage and are against a warrior with 5000 strength, his damage will be calculated as if he had 4500 strength

I use the following reasoning:
I am a mage. Each point to int gives me 1 int. Each point to str gives a 1/2 point reduction in str to warriors and each point to dex gives 1/2 point reduction in dex to scouts. If we assume that I spend 1/3 of my time fighting opponents of each class, then int always helps me because it ups my damage against everyone, whereas str and dex only helps me 1/3 of the time. 1/3 x 1/2 = 1/6, or about 17%. So if dex or str cost less than 17% of a point of int, I buy that; if it costs more, I buy int.

As a result, since my int cost has maxed out at 10,000,000, I bought str and dex to bring their cost up to 1,670,000, and then stopped buying. Now I put all my gold into int or con.

spin,
good plan..
but I have always thought of something different..
Compare a min/max to a REVERSE build..
Add to STR/DEX/CON over int/Con/ luck...
You all of a sudden gain defense over everything...
It would take a LONG build, but the defense against everything...would be GREAT..except against other wiz..

You wouldn't get far with that build as a Mage, IMHO.

I can imagine you would do pretty low damage, so no matter the defenses, warriors and scouts would most likely kill you before you'd manage to do enough damage to kill THEM.
And of course, other mages would have an easy time killing you, as you mentioned yourself

I don't have a big strategy I use most gold on str and then con if luck gets a little low will thro some in to it. if I have enough gold for off stats will use on the class that tends to beat me more in arena but only if gold is not enough for str and con.

the problem is three-fold:
1) if I put little or nothing into int, I will have no attack. Great defense just gets me beaten to a pulp slower.
2) Defense is discounted 50%, so every point my opponent puts into his/her primary counts twice what I put into defense, and I need to defend against both warriors and scouts. A scout puts 10,000 points into dex, I put 7000 each into dex and str (since I can buy more cheaply) I'm still battling 10,000 vs 3500, which will not be pretty.
3) attacks against wizards would be even worse.

Ever see someone with that build? No?

That's why.

i Understnad about the Wiz..
For all his power he has 2 things against him,...
1. he CANT DUCK/DODGE..And anyone fighting him CANT either..
2. A minus on HP/Con..

Fighter..
Gets Half dodge
Bonus on CON..

Ranger, is the middle..but he gets full dodge..25% armour..

With the new bonus due to portals, the equation can become even more lop-sided.

For instance I am at +16% to attack. and I have a ~1800 damage weapon.
1 point increase in int raises my damage by 1/10*1800*1.16 = 208.8. Whereas 1 point increase in str or dex lowers my damage taken by 1/2 /10*enemies weapon damage*enemies portal bonus. So say your enemy is equal level warrior class with ~800 damage and 22% portal. 1/2 /10 *800 *1.22 = 48.8 damage absorbed. But you could be facing someone else with ~760 damage and only 15% portal 1/2 /10*760*1.15 = 43.7 damage absorbed.

My point is this 208.8/48.8 so say 200/50 ~4:1 placing points into main damage stat for mage is easily 4:1 damage to damaged absorbed even before you consider how often you face specific types of toons. So it's more like 3:1*4:1 or 12:1 cost is more appropriate. You can play very successfully without placing any stats into str or dex as a mage.
