Default Weapon strengths

Which weapon strength is better?
66-162 (114)
or 88-116 (102)?

The first one has a higher average but wider range and the second one has a lower average but is more consistent.

At first glance, the one that has the higher average damage would probably be better but you also have to take into account how much each weapon will boost your primary stat, if at all.

This site will let you compare weapons and tell you which will give you a higher average damage.

It is really a matter of who you are going to be fighting. The smaller range is great when competing against folks about your strength, as it allows you to know how well you compare to them. The second one is great when fighting against folks much stronger than you, as you can get lucky and do more damage towards the higher end during a fight or two.

I dont see any reason to pick the lower average weapon.

low variance is only useful when you want to be really really sure to beat someone worse than yourself. At same level it doesnt matter, you still about 50% to win anyways, and vs higher level you got a bit bigger chance to win with high variance.

There are no situation where you need to be really really sure to beat a lower level guy (at least as long as you win all the quest-fights), while it is really useful to beat a higher-level dungeon after a few tries.

So i would easily go for variance over no variance as long as you dont get troubles to win the quest fights.

And in this case, the high-variance weapen has a higher average as well, so assuming that the +stats are similar, it is an easy choice.

And I did the calcualtion just for the fun of it:
If you attack with both weapons once, it is 37% probability that the 88-116 (102) will do more damage than the 66-162 (114). And as you attack more times, it will rapidly drop to smaller percentages.
