Nope.

And epics are only better than non-epics at lower levels. I have yet to come across an epic that could beat my +263 dex weapon (or any other piece of my armor) and be a good enough trade-off...

You are NOT guaranteed to get an epic if you beat a dungeon boss. And even if you're awarded with an item from a dungeon boss, you are also NOT guaranteed that it will be an epic item.

I think you're confusing "bad luck" with "not fair". You have a 50% chance of getting an item from a dungeon monster. From that, a 25% chance of your item being an epic. Those aren't very good...
