while stating that wrestling is scripted is true it is only true to a point which is one of the reasons it is appealing to me. the parts that are scripted are the endings and in some cases specific parts or spots as they are referred to in the matches. the rest of the match is put together by the wrestlers during the match. yes during the actual match. if you watch close enough you can often see the performers whispering to each other. i can tell you this is no easy thing. they call their moves sometimes 10 or so ahead and have to remember what order to perform them in. i can not tell you how many times while training i messed this up. there was this one time when i was training where we were doing chain wrestling. that is the boring stuff at the start of the match no one remembers which is way harder than it looks. we had all paired up and had the simple task of doing 8 moves in a row. our trainer had told us the 8 specific moves and what order to do them in. all we had to do was do them correctly in the right order. if we did we could go home because it was the end of the night and we had already been training for hours. each pair of wrestlers tried the set and failed. only one pair had to get it right but we all messed up. so we went again and failed again. this went on for an hour. we were not stupid guys well not all of us but working together to do 8 moves in a row without making an error had proved impossible. finally a pair of guys was on the final move which was a clothesline. yes these were basic fundamental moves we were all messing up repeatedly. anyway they were almost done. they had done 7 out of the 8 moves with no errors. we were all going crazy because finally a pair was going to do all 8 moves and we could go home. the one guy hits the other guy with the clothesline and they both fell flat on their backs. which was not at all how it is supposed to work. the guy giving the clothesline took a bump(fall) too which he was not supposed to do and really makes no sense. he just had a brain fart. right at the end of the set after doing everything else perfectly. it was pretty funny to see but heart breaking because we thought we would be there all night. luckily the trainer let us go. my point is the guys you see on tv rarely mess up because they really are the best of the best at what they do. most of them have been doing this for years and have really honed their craft. me? i only lasted one year. i had 3 serious injuries and was working full time. my body was not built for the abuse. i mean everything hurts. learning to bump(fall) which is one of the most basic things is also one of the hardest and most painful things to learn. running the ropes. eh that does not sound hard does it? the "ropes" are metal cable wrapped in electrical tape that you run at full force then slam your back into to give the illusion you are bouncing off of them. i have pictures on facebook of the soccer sized bruises i got from running the ropes the first couple times. my point is i have crazy respect or these guys that continue to destroy their bodies for entertainment. when two wrestlers are good enough to work together, to suck me in and get me to suspend my disbelief that they are really trying to beat one another it truly is a piece of art. that may seem cheesey but as someone that has been a fan for 25 years and someone that has been in the ring i know how hard it really is to do it well. i can look past the bad acting and silly stories to look at these guys busting their butts to get us to cheer or boo them. i will address one other comment you made which was referring to them as roided up. this is a totally understandable comment. if you look at the more mainstream and well known wrestling figures they are all pretty big muscular guys. as a kid i was a big hulk hogan fan and he perfectly fits the bill. if i were a kid today i would probably be a john cena fan and again he is another great example. despite the fact he claims to be a natural. the guys i enjoy tend to be the guys that can actually wrestle which are not necessarily the body builder type guys. if you went back a couple months ago wwe had two champions. cm punk who is in no way a roided up monster and daniel bryan who is a regular sized guy. they are both are in great shape and their cardio is amazing because they can wrestle for days. many would consider those two to be the best wrestlers in the united states today. despite the fact cm punk says he is the best in the world a monicker he stole from daniel bryan. i bring up daniel bryan because he wrestled in the small independent wrestling companies for years before moving up to the wwe. his name is bryan danielson. i have watched him wrestle live move times than i can count. most times in front of a couple hundred people at best. i have chatted with him and shaken his hand on many occasions. he is smaller than me. in fact he is the same height as my wife. gone are the days of giant muscle heads being the main attraction. guys that have really studied and perfected the art of pro wrestling are the future. i mean this is just my take on it. i am sure other people enjoy it for vastly different reasons. just like i understand that some people will write it of as being "fake" but there really is so much more to it then that. i hope my response did not come of as flippant or condescending. i just wanted to give a honest and heartfelt reply. if you ever want to check out an australian independent wrestling company this is one i know about http://www.awfwrestling.com.au/wrest.../Massive+Q.htm i specifically linked a guy that i know that wrestles there. aint he a sexy beast ![]() on to the tv question. obviously i watch wrestling. beyond that i am pretty crazy with tv. if you thought my book response was long get ready to be blown away. this is my recently updated list of tv on dvd that i own. own as in purchased from a store brand new. i hate used stuff. who wants scratches and other peoples germs. ill. so again purchased not copied or downloaded. my collection is legit. A Bit of Fry & Laurie is a British sketch comedy television series written by and starring former Cambridge Footlights members Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie, broadcast on both BBC1 and BBC2 between 1989 and 1995. It ran for four series and totalled 26 episodes, including a 35 minute pilot episode in 1987.
As in The Two Ronnies, elaborate wordplay and innuendo were staples of its material. It frequently broke the fourth wall; characters would revert into their real-life actors mid-sketch, or the camera would often pan off set into the studio. In addition, the show was punctuated with non-sequitur vox pops in a similar style to those of Monty Python's Flying Circus, often making irrelevant statements, heavily based on wordplay. Laurie was also seen playing piano and a wide variety of other instruments and singing comical numbers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Bit_of_Fry_%26_Laurie |

sorry ralff, dont recall your "about me/who is who" section from the top of my head.
i dont read most things on here anymore anyway. the fact the end is scripted is the worst part to me. id rather it be unscripted or perhaps the first few parts be..ie.."ok, first i get taken down by you, then i take you down 2x, and then its every man for himself". i have seen maybe a total of 15 minutes of it on tele. yes i have seen them whisper to each other which is yet another annoying thing to me. "hey..do this move over in that corner"..etc. as you wrestled and trained and such i dont want to knock you or this form of entertainment too hard..so lets just say "i dont understand the appeal" and call it a day ![]() |
